            My Father-in-law, who is 97 years of age, had a heart attack recently. As I sat with him on Sunday morning in the hospital cardiac ICU, I began to talk with him about his relationship with God. Like most of us do, I made the error of assuming his salvation was secure simply because he took his family to church faithfully through the years.

            I discovered, though, that John did not understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. With a Gideon testament in hand, we read Scriptures together and discussed their meaning and how his life (eternal life) could forever be changed, and how he could know beyond doubt that he would be in heaven with God and Jesus should he die that day.

            John embraced Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour that day. He prayed the sinner’s prayer and penned his name in that testament. He read from it off and on all day.

            After 97 years, I’m sure Satan thought he had this one “in the bag.” But instead, he had to say, “Just lost another one to Jesus!” Praise God!
